Problems and Solutions for Health Promoting Schools in Korea

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to assess problems and solutions for the Health Promoting Schools(HPS) in Korea. Methods: Teachers who were directing Health Promoting Schools answered the questionnaires about problems and solutions for Health Promoting Schools. The response rate was 52%. A self-reported questionnaire consisted of 3 close-ended questions and 2 open questions. Results: During managing the Korean Health Promoting School, There were 4 kinds of difficulties; preparing the external evaluation, writing the business plan, making school members participate and linking school with community. In particular, it is reported that respondents had the biggest difficulty encouraging school teachers` participation. Conclusion: To improve these difficulties, First, incentives for teachers should be provided. Second, sharing examples and standard manuals are needed. Third, reinforcing consultation is needed. Finally, the reporting and the evaluating should be simplified.
